Room to Create: Art for Homeschool Families and Co-ops

Some children approach a blank page with a plan. Others need time to explore the materials, watch someone else, or try a few things before they begin. At The Art Experience in Pontiac, there’s room for all of those approaches.

Our mission is improving lives through the arts, and we welcome homeschool families looking for affordable, hands-on opportunities to make art and connect with others. Children of all ages, abilities, and learning styles are welcome, including children with disabilities and those who are neurodivergent.

Art can be part of the way your child learns. Mixing colors invites experimentation. Building a sculpture involves planning and problem-solving. Choosing materials and trying something unfamiliar gives children practice making decisions, adapting, and expressing their ideas. Sometimes, the most valuable part is having the freedom to see where an idea goes.

Our low-cost Open Studio includes materials and gives families space to explore at their own pace. There’s no expectation that everyone will make the same thing or leave with a perfect finished piece. Children can follow their curiosity, develop their own ideas, and enjoy the process of creating. Financial assistance is available when needed.

We welcome homeschool co-ops, too! If your group is looking for a shared art experience, we’re happy to work with you to arrange a session that considers your children’s ages, learning goals, interests, and individual support needs. Tell us what you have in mind, and we can discuss scheduling and affordable options for your group.

Whether you’re adding art to your homeschool week, exploring a particular topic, or looking for a place to create alongside other families, we’d love to welcome you.

Visit The Art Experience to learn more about Open Studio, or email Liz to plan a co-op visit or discuss your family’s needs.
