When Your Child Is Struggling to Read: Understanding Dyslexia and Finding the Right Support

Is Your Child Struggling to Read? You’re Not Alone.

Your child is smart.

They understand things when you explain them.

They can tell you an amazing story.

But when it comes to reading, spelling, or writing, everything seems harder than it should.

Maybe your child:

  • Avoids reading

  • Guesses at words

  • Has trouble sounding out unfamiliar words

  • Struggles to remember spelling patterns

  • Reads very slowly

  • Gets frustrated during homework

  • Understands a story when someone reads it aloud but struggles to read it independently

  • Says things like, “I’m just bad at reading.”

If this sounds familiar, your child may need different instruction—not more of the same instruction.

Dyslexia Is Not About Intelligence

Dyslexia is a language-based learning difference that can affect reading, spelling, writing, and language processing.

And here is something every parent needs to hear:

Dyslexia has nothing to do with how smart your child is.

Many children with dyslexia are creative, curious, excellent problem-solvers and incredible thinkers.

They simply need instruction that is designed to meet their learning needs.

What Helps?

Students with dyslexia often benefit from Structured Literacy instruction.

This means skills are taught:

✔️ Explicitly
✔️ Systematically
✔️ Sequentially
✔️ Repeatedly
✔️ Using multisensory strategies

Instruction may focus on:

📚 Phonological awareness
📚 Phonics and decoding
📚 Spelling and encoding
📚 Syllable patterns
📚 Morphology
📚 Reading fluency
📚 Vocabulary
📚 Reading comprehension
✏️ Written language

The goal isn't simply to make a child memorize more words.

The goal is to help them understand how our language works.

What About Math?

Dyslexia doesn't always occur by itself.

Some students also struggle with math concepts, computation, number sense, or remembering math facts.

That is why Dyslexify also provides multisensory math intervention designed to help students build understanding—not simply memorize procedures.

Florida Families Have Options

Florida families may be able to use scholarship funds for qualifying educational services.

Programs and allowable expenses can change, so families should always review their specific scholarship requirements before purchasing services.

My Learning Source helps families discover educational providers and services that may be available through their scholarship options.

You Don't Have to Figure It Out Alone

Watching your child struggle can be heartbreaking.

But struggling today does not mean your child will struggle forever.

The right instruction, the right support, and the right encouragement can make a tremendous difference.

At Dyslexify LLC, we believe every student deserves to be taught in a way that makes sense to them.

We provide support for students with dyslexia and other learning differences, as well as students who simply need additional academic intervention.

Your child isn't lazy.
Your child isn't "not trying."
And your child isn't incapable of learning.

Sometimes, they just need someone to teach them differently.
